Reds Prodigy Elly De La Cruz’s Carousel Performance Leads Cincinnati to 12th Straight Win

In just his 15th game in MLB, Reds prodigy Elly De La Cruz had a carousel Friday in Cincinnati’s 11-10 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

The Reds secured a 12th straight win to equal a team mark dating back to 1957 for the longest winning streak in a single season. The Reds are 14-2 since recalling De La Cruz on June 6.

However, they were up against the best team in the National League, which is 48-27 and had won its last eight games.

De La Cruz’s carousel is the first by a Reds player since Eric Davis’ on June 2, 1989. It was the longest active streak without a carousel by an MLB team.

De La Cruz opened the game with a double with a slap hit at 116.6 miles per hour against the right field fence in second.

The 21-year-old followed up with his third homer of the season in the third and added a single to his tally in the fifth.

De La Cruz completed the feat on his fourth at bat in the sixth with a slap into the right field fairway. The young infielder once again demonstrated his great speed by easily reaching third base.

He lifted a weak ball to center field on his fifth and last appearance of the game in the eighth.

Veteran Joey Votto hit two homers and drove in three runs. He has three home runs and seven RBIs in four games since returning to the game.

Jake Fraley hit his 10th homer of the season for the Reds.

Twice Matt Olson, Travis d’Arnaud, Ronald Acuna Jr and Austin Riley homered apiece for the Braves, who started the game with a five-run push in the first and came within a single run of the Reds with a slam three solo circuits in the eighth.
