Havana, May 16 (JIT) – The Leñadores de Las Tunas defeated the Huracanes de Mayabeque, with a score of 10×4, and concluded the qualifying phase of the National Baseball Series with a record of 43-32.
Havana, Jun 5 (ACN).- In another day of heavy rain and several suspended games, Las Tunas beat Pinar del Río 7-6 on Sunday and signed its ninth consecutive victory in the 62nd National Baseball Series, which is going through its thirteenth particular subseries.
The Leñadores from Las Tunas had today the efficient wood of their third baseman Yordanis Alarcón, enrolled in another excellent season. He went 2 for 4, including a home run and two RBIs. Fourth win for reliever Alberto Pablo Civil, who also has 11 saves, for which he has participated in 15 of the team’s 33 victories.
With this smile, the Lumberjacks are 33-24 and rank as sub-leaders of the tournament, just half a game behind Santiago de Cuba (35-25) who was winning their 6-4 extra-inning duel against La Isla when the rain came and there was than seal it
Today’s good note was provided by left-hander Geonel Gutiérrez, who was left alone as the leader in victories (8) by beating Granma 3-1 on a visit to the Mártires de Barbados stadium in Bayamés. He pitched six innings of four strikeouts and just three hits allowed. In the second match between the two, the Alazanes from Granma won 5×2.
In the Latin American Championship, the Industriales team defeated Cienfuegos twice (5-3 and 4-2) to only remain in seventh place (33-29).
In other results, Sancti Spíritus defeated Holguín twice (11-5, 5-3) and Mayabeque defeated Villa Clara 5-4 with the sixth success of the right-hander Yadián Martínez. The day marked the balance of three sealed games and another five suspended.
