National team: Manuel Neuer no longer placed with Hansi Flick | Sports

Clear announcement from national coach Hansi Flick (58)!

The ex-Bayern coach has three friendly international matches with the national team this month. On June 12, the DFB team will play against the Ukraine, on June 16 in Poland and on June 20 against Colombia.

One thing is clear: Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (37) will not be between the posts in any of the three games. The 2014 world champion is still recovering from his ski injury from December. He wants to be in top form again for the start of the preparations for the new season.

Neuer was therefore not even nominated. Instead, Marc-André ter Stegen (31/Barcelona), Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp (32) and Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno (31) are there.

Ter Stegen had already replaced Neuer in the friendly against Peru (2-0) and Belgium (2-3) in March. His declared goal: He wants to remain number 1! And the chances are not so bad despite a possible new return.

In an interview with the “FAZ”, Flick reveals that Neuer is no longer set automatically. And has to earn his post again!

The national coach: “We will decide that when the time comes. Manuel Neuer has shaped goalkeeping for well over ten years. He is exceptional as a goalkeeper, as well as a person.”

And further: “But he has to – and he knows that – show his performance. In any case, we have very few problems in the goalkeeping position.”

Ter Stegen had won the Spanish championship with Barcelona this season and almost set a sole record from zero. He has not conceded a goal in 26 league games, drawing level with Francisco Liaño (58). The Spaniard also kept 26 clean sheets in the 1994/1995 season as a goalkeeper for Deportivo La Coruña.
