Europe Conference League: winner with West Ham, Emerson makes history

He is not the most famous of footballers, nor the richest of them, but at 28, Emerson has just signed a historic performance. He is the first to have, in his trophy cabinet, those of the five competitions organized by UEFA.

Emerson Palmieri dos Santos – his real name – won the Europa League Conference (C4) on Wednesday evening in Prague by winning at the end of the suspense (2-1) with West Ham against the Italian formation of Fiorentina. While this is the first continental title since 1965 for the English club, the collection is already significant for the player. It even fills the only missing box so far on its list.

Before lifting the Europa League Conference, the former player of Olympique Lyonnais (36 games during the 2021-2022 season) – club with which his record remained empty – had won the Champions League in 2021, the Supercup of Europe 2021 and the Europa League 2019 with Chelsea. Although born in Brazil, in Santos, the defender has worn the tunic of the Italian selection since 2018 and won with the Squadra Azzurra Euro 2020 in England.

The latter also has a few other trophies. Before obtaining Italian naturalization, he had won the South American Under-17 championship with Brazil.

The unfortunate finalist of the English League Cup in 2019 and the English Cup in 2020 also failed, with Italy, during Finalissima, the Champions Cup between the European winner and the South American. It was in 2022 against Argentina (3-0).
