The public initiative portal “Manabalss.lv” has started collecting signatures for the construction of an ice rink in Ķekava.
Matīss Rybkinskis is indicated as the representative of the initiative. The signatures are planned to be submitted to the Ķekava county council, therefore only residents of this municipality are invited to sign for this idea.
The author of the idea states that the ice hall in Ķekava would allow the development of hockey and figure skating traditions in the region and give children and young people the opportunity to train in these sports. At the same time, there would be wider opportunities for the residents of Ķekava to develop their skating skills and participate in amateur sports events.
Ribkinskis emphasizes that hockey is one of the most popular sports in Latvia, but in Ķekava county, which is one of the fastest growing municipalities, hockey is unjustifiably neglected. According to him, Ķekava district is an excellent location for a hockey hall – near Salaspils, Olaine, Bauska and also Riga, which would allow attracting people from neighboring municipalities as well. Therefore, the initiative calls on the municipality of Ķekava to decide on the project and construction of the ice rink in the county and to set deadlines for the work to be done.
