Julien Carraggi (BWF 71) won his first match in the European Games badminton tournament in Poland on Monday. The 23-year-old from Brussels beat Austrian Luka Wraber (BWF 97) 2-0 (21-11, 21-11) in Pool H.
Carraggi will meet German Kai Schäfer (BWF 70) on Tuesday and Czech Jan Louda (BWF 55) on Wednesday. A place in the top two opens the doors to the round of 16.
Lianne Tan (BWF 45) also won her first Group F match in Poland earlier on Monday. The Limburger proved too strong (21-10 and 21-10) for the Italian Yasmina Hamza (BWF 120). Tan, 2nd at the 2015 European Games in Baku, will again face Hungarian Vivien Sandorhazi (BWF 74) and Finland’s Nella Nyqvest (BWF 407) in her group.
