John Textor Moves Closer to Complete Ownership of Olympique de Lyon with €53 Million Acquisition Offer

The American investor John Textor, who already owns more than 89 percent of Olympique de Lyon, from Botafogo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and who in 2021 also tried to invest in Benfica’s SAD, formalized this Thursday, through the company Eagle Football Capital (and its associate Netisix) with the French financial authority the prospectus for the Public Offer for Acquisition (OPA) of the 10.44 percent of shares in the French club that it does not yet own, directly or indirectly, through its OL Groupe, for an additional €53 M.

After the announcement, the shares of the Olympique Lyon Group were immediately suspended from listing by EuroNext in Paris, and will only be tradable again on Friday, the 23rd: on this day, they reached €3,060 as a maximum value/share and €2,780 at least, on an average of the trading day which, when the quotation was suspended, was €2,920/share.

Textor goes up to €3 for every Lyon share. It still does not control, directly or indirectly, 17,610,237 ‘papers’ of the club, according to the OPA prospectus.

A year ago, in June 2022, John Textor committed to go ahead with the entire purchase, which involves acquiring Jean-Michel Aulas (historic former president of the club) and his holding company, Holnest, the shares it still holds, as well as Pathé (a film industry company) and the Chinese capital fund IDG Capitals, in addition to having to acquire the Osranes convertible bonds – issued to finance the construction of the Groupama Stadium – and increase the capital to €86 M.

John Textor will also sell the US women’s soccer team OL Reign, from Tacoma (Seattle, Washington state) to the American businesswoman Michele Kang.
