Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, is taking a step closer to hosting the ‘2026 Gyeonggi Provincial Sports Festival’.

This is because new public sports facilities, long-cherished projects of Gwangju citizens, such as the opening of the Gwangju City Water Park (indoor swimming pool) and the Taejeon National Sports Center, are opening one after another.

According to Gwangju City on the 5th, following the opening of the Gwangju City Water Park indoor swimming pool (25m, 8 lanes) on the 1st, outdoor water play facilities such as the main pool and four-season sledding rink, which are currently under construction, will open sometime next month when the construction is completed. .

The Taejeon National Sports Center, which opened on the same day, has a total floor area of ​​5,986㎡ (1 basement floor to 3 floors above ground), and has a multi-purpose gymnasium and gym where you can enjoy badminton and basketball, a swimming pool (25m, 6 lanes), an outdoor rest area, and a cafe. and has a parking lot.

On July 1st, the Neungpyeong Sports Center, built in the basement of the Neungpyeong Elementary School playground, will open. The Neungpyeong Sports Center consists of a gym and multi-purpose room on the 1st basement floor and a swimming pool on the 2nd basement floor.

Starting with the opening ceremony of the Taejeon National Sports Center on the 3rd, the city plans to hold the Neungpyeong Sports Center on the 1st of July, and the outdoor water park and parking tower of the Gwangju City Water Park on the 9th with the completion of the construction.

Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “When the Neungpyeong Sports Center is officially opened in July, our city will have a total of four swimming pools. I am very excited about the expansion of public sports facilities where Gwangju citizens, who have been disappointed by the lack of sports infrastructure, can enjoy more comfortably throughout the four seasons,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gwangju City held the 2nd Gwangju Mayor Cup Paralympic Swimming Competition at the Taejeon National Sports Center on the 3rd along with the opening ceremony of the public sports facility swimming pool, and on the 9th of next month, the Gwangju Mayor Cup National Junior Masters Swimming Competition will be held at Gwangju City Water Park.
