Emma Raducanu Forced to Withdraw from Hangzhou International Tennis Tournament

Emma Raducanu is forced to miss the Hangzhou International tennis tournament which will take place from June 22 to 25. Raducanu, who was scheduled to compete in an exhibition tournament in China, contracted a virus and her doctor told her she could not travel.

Unfortunately, I had flu symptoms for the past few days and despite having tested negative for covid, my doctor told me that I could not travel. I’m devastated to miss the Hangzhou event.

I have been looking forward to returning to China for four years now and I am very sad that I cannot return to see my family. I hope to come back as soon as I can see my fans and family,” Raducanu announced in his post on Weibo.

Raducanu didn’t want to play in Hangzhou

In May Raducanu had surgery on both wrists and left ankle. When Raducanu was confirmed for Hangzhou at the end of May, it was clear that she would only be attending the event as a guest.

In Hangzhou, Raducanu was to be joined by tennis legends such as Marat Safin, Juan Martin del Potro and David Ferrer. Unfortunately for Raducanu, an illness forced her to miss the Hangzhou competition.

Currently, Raducanu is on the sidelines as she is recovering from several surgeries. “You could say that the last ten months have been difficult, as I had to deal with a recurring injury to a bone in both hands.

I did my best to deal with the pain and still play for most of this year and late last year by drastically reducing the training load, missing weeks of training and cutting short last season to try to heal the injury.

Unfortunately, this is not enough. I will undergo minor surgery on both hands to fix the problem,” Raducanu announced on May 3.
