Daniel Farke will not get a second season at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Bundesliga club wants to start the next season with a new coach. Farke was actually under contract until 2025.

BOrussia Mönchengladbach is parting ways with coach Daniel Farke after just one year. This was announced by the Bundesliga club. The Borussia ends the planned reconstruction with the 46-year-old prematurely. Farke only signed a contract until June 30, 2025 last summer.

“After several intensive discussions, Daniel Farke and we came to the conclusion that we should go our separate ways,” sporting director Roland Virkus was quoted as saying in a club statement. Farke was actually supposed to initiate the team’s upheaval and achieve a better placement than in the past season. Borussia ended the season again in tenth place after beating FC Augsburg 2-0, but with 43 points they scored two fewer than the 45 points in the previous year under Adi Hütter.

Farke has been criticized by many fans for weeks. He was booed several times at home games. He doesn’t take it personally, commented the native of Westphalia, who wasn’t able to stabilize the team. Gladbach often disappointed, especially away from home and against opponents who were actually weaker. Playfully no progress was recognizable.

Gladbach acknowledged Farke in May

However, Virkus had not withdrawn his confidence from the coach for a long time and emphasized at the beginning of May that he wanted to start the new season with Farke. Two days after the 2:5 at Borussia Dortmund on the 32nd day of the game, he then announced a detailed review of the current season. When the “Rheinische Post” reported before the 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen on the penultimate day that the separation at the end of the season was certain, Virkus vehemently denied it.

Now the club, which also lost important players in captain Lars Stindl, Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini, has to start again after a year with a new head coach. For Farke’s predecessor Hütter, the engagement in Borussia Park ended prematurely after just one season. The club has not yet commented on Farke’s successor. The former Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane, with whom Borussia is said to have already met, according to “Bild”, emerged as the most recent candidate. With Farke, his assistant coaches Edmund Riemer, Christopher John and Chris Domogalla will also leave the club.
