2023 ASEAN Para Games Final Standings: Indonesia 159 Gold, Hattrick Overall Champion

KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian contingent in the ASEAN Para Games 2023 Cambodia ended the struggle by winning 159 gold, 148 silver and 94 bronze medals.

This achievement also confirmed Indonesia’s position at the top of the 2023 ASEAN Para Games standings.

Indonesia at the top of the 2023 ASEAN Para Games medal standings was then crowned the overall champion.

They managed to outperform Thailand, which is often the strongest competitor in the ASEAN Para Games.

At the ASEAN Para Games this time, Indonesia won 33 gold over Thailand, which finished in second place.

Thailand is in second place in the 2023 ASEAN Para Games standings with a collection of 126 gold, 109 silver and 92 bronze.

Furthermore, under Thailand, there is Vietnam which ranks third thanks to a total of 201 medals.

Details of Vietnam’s contingent medal collection consist of 66 gold, 58 silver and 77 bronze.

Vietnam is far behind Indonesia, which then recorded a hat trick as the overall champion (2017, 2022, 2023).

Indonesia’s Chef de Mission (CdM) at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games, Andi Herman, said that the athletes’ struggles had succeeded in bringing the Red and White Contingent beyond the targets set from the beginning.

“In total we got 401 medals. This result exceeded the target we planned before leaving, namely 121 gold,” said Andi Herman in a release received by KOMPAS.com, Saturday (10/6/2023).

“Of course, with various careful calculations based on the athlete’s achievements, such as time records, tryout results and international invitations that are followed,” said Andi Herman.

After that, Andi explained that this achievement could not be separated from the fighting spirit and high enthusiasm shown by the athletes since the Pelatnas.

“Apart from exceeding the gold medal target, our athletes also set 15 ASEAN Para Games records. Four in powerlifting and 11 in swimming. This is certainly something we should be proud of,” said Andi Herman.

In the last day’s matches, the badminton sport contributed six gold medals as well as being a sweet closing for Indonesia’s journey at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games.

The six gold medals came from Dheva Anrimusthi (men’s singles SU5), Hari Susanto and Ukun Rukaendi (men’s doubles SL3-SL4), Dheva Anrimusthi and Hafizh Briliansyah Prawiranegara (men’s doubles Su5).

Then from other sectors, Qonitah Syakuroh also contributed gold medals in the number (single SL3 women) and Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila (women’s doubles SL3-SU5).

In addition, six Indonesian sports also listed themselves as overall champions. Among them are badminton (13 gold, 9 silver, 8 bronze), chess (15 gold, 17 silver, 8 bronze), blind judo (11 gold, 5 silver, 16 bronze), weightlifting (17 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze) and table tennis (31 gold, 16 silver, 17 bronze).

“Representing athletes, coaches, managers and officials, we thank you for the appreciation that has been given by the government so far. Moreover, this appreciation is on par with non-disabled athletes who competed in the 2023 SEA Games yesterday,” explained Andi Herman.

Meanwhile, Special Staff to the President for Social Affairs, Angkie Yudistia added, the hat-trick as the overall winner proves that Indonesia has extraordinary talent from athletes with disabilities.

According to him, the government made sure to give the same appreciation. This step is a form of attention and appreciation for the award, the hard work of the athletes who have made Indonesia proud.

“Our hope is that our athletes will be ready to compete again for the Asian Para Games later this year and the Paralympics in Paris next year,” said Angkie.

“With structured and systematic coaching from NPC Indonesia, it can prepare our athletes to be even more prepared and consistently champions,” Angkie explained.
