Turkish media report agreement between Ajax and Fenerbahça about Güler

According to Turkish media, Ajax has received its first reinforcement for next season. The team from Amsterdam would agree with Fenerbahçe on a transfer fee of twenty million euros for Arda Güler. The eighteen-year-old midfielder has previously been associated with numerous other clubs.

Güler has been followed for some time by various clubs from Europe, including Ajax. It was previously announced that Fenerbahçe would like to break Güler’s contract to include a transfer clause of 35 million euros in a new commitment. The current contract, signed by Güler in March 2022, includes a clause whereby the midfielder can leave for five million euros if he plays less than 1500 minutes in total. The counter for the midfielder stands at 1,216 minutes this season, spread over 31 matches. Another 180 minutes can be added here after the last two rounds of the Turkish league.

However, both the clause of 5 million and the clause of 35 million do not seem to be relevant due to the reported impending agreement between Ajax and Fenerbahçe. According to Turkish media, the club from the capital of the Netherlands will transfer twenty million euros to Fenerbahçe. As a result, Ajax trumps Newcastle United, AC Milan, Barcelona and Napoli, among others. The former club hoped to secure Güler and his teammate Ferdi Kadioglu, who played for NEC in the past, at an earlier stage.

Güler played in Genclerbirligi youth academy from 2014 to 2019, after which he made the switch to Fenerbahçe’s youth academy in February 2019. He went through this at a rapid pace and during the end of the 2020/21 season, the then sixteen-year-old Güler was twice in the match selection. The midfielder had to wait until the second round of the 2021/22 season for his debut in professional football. The counter now stands at 47 duels for Fenerbahçe, in which he scored 9 times and gave 10 assists. In November 2022, Güler made his debut for the Turkish national team against the Czech Republic (2-1 win) and in March 2023 he played his second international match against Croatia (0-2 loss). Güler represents an Expected Transfer Value (xTV) of EUR 8.2 million.
