New Rimini Splits Doubleheader in Serie A Baseball Championship, Tops Rovigo in Game 2

Another draw for New Rimini on the second day of the Serie A baseball championship. The Rimini team, ahead of Itas Rovigo who were leaders with two victories in the first round, lost game 1 by 13 to 5 and fully redeemed themselves in the evening, winning game 2 3 to 0.

A positive result given the difficulties in the afternoon match and the need to replace the foreign pitcher in game 2, who was rested due to a slight ailment. Dorian Castro’s boys, after Game 1 compromised at the start and clearly lost, showed character and desire for revenge and in the evening match they showed off a perfect performance. Gianluca Tognacci was chosen by the team as MVP of the day and there was also a large representation of the Romeo Neri east curve in the stands to support New Rimini.

Group C so far is very balanced: Rovigo remains leaders with three victories, then four teams tied with two and Cagliari closes with one.

Round 1

The match immediately takes the decisive path. In the first inning New Rimini is unable to find the measures to counter Rovigo’s attack which immediately takes off. The complicated start of the departing Tommaso Aiello, also unnerved by numerous borderline calls from the umpire at home plate and thanks to some defensive indecision, led to a decisive inning with ten points scored. The first eight on the starting pitcher and two on the reliever Elia Sartini.

New Rimini tries to shake things up immediately and scores three points on the starting guest Enrico Crepaldi, started by a single from Pulzetti, followed by a hit from Baccelli, a triple from Chacon and a sprint from Gabrielli. Rovigo reacts to the comeback attempt and scores another point in the second inning with Julian Dreni, pushed home by Andrea Bernardi. The match rebalances, but remains directed: New Rimini scores in the third inning and then closes at 13 to 5.

Also on the Rimini pitching mound is the very young Tommaso Metalli Grisetti, born in 2007, followed by Pulzetti and Cortesi. Five players climbed the mountain. Manager Castro had to preserve Gianluca Tognacci for the evening match, given the unavailability of Venezuelan Eduard Paredes. Despite the clear defeat, the number of hits was decent, 12, compared to 17 in Rovigo. Above all Alejandro Chacon, three hits in five rounds for him.

Gara2

Manager Dorian Castro rests the Venezuelan Eduard Paredes due to a slight contracture and relies on Gianluca Tognacci as a starter, who together with the team shows off an exceptional performance. 3 to 0 for New Rimini in the final, with the mound granting league leaders Rovigo only two hits in the entire match; the defense closed with zero errors and the attack produced six hits.

On the other hand, Javier Diaz is on the mound as a starter and he will be the one to suffer the first two points of New Rimini which arrive in the fourth inning to break the initial balance: base ball to Bonemei, another free base to Gabrielli and the double by Jesus Baro with single by Cifalinò to seal the two points. At 2 to 0 the game remains blocked and the score only moves to the seventh on the pitcher Marelli who replaced Riesco Lopez’s first relief: Pulzetti is hit, Baccelli sends him to third and then on the fourth pitcher from Rovigo, Taschin, it is Alejandro Chacon who brings home the point that sets the result at 3 to 0 which will never change again.

Great performance from Tognacci who threw seven innings, excellent relief from Kevin Sosa who closed the last two innings without allowing any hits. In the nine innings, no base balls conceded by the Rimini team.

In the next round New Rimini will play on Saturday 4 May again at home against Ronchi dei Legionari, fresh from two home victories over the weekend against Cagliari. Races at 3.00pm and 8.00pm.
