MLS: new double and a record for Lionel Messi with Inter Miami

At 36 years old, Lionel Messi continues to shine under the Miami sun. With Inter Miami, the Argentinian scored a new double during Inter Miami’s victory (4-1) on the pitch of New England Revolution, Saturday evening during the 11th day of the North American championship. The former PSG player now brings his total to nine points in just seven games, making him the top scorer in MLS. With his team trailing, Messi equalized in the 32nd minute, hitting the opposing goalkeeper at the near post.

He then gave his team the advantage in the 67th minute of play, by converting a laser pass from teammate Sergio Busquets into the area. This goal with a Catalan accent led to another, when Messi shifted Luis Suarez, scorer of the third goal with a brushed shot (88th).

In the wake of the three stars, joint winners of the 2015 Champions League in Barcelona under the orders of Luis Enrique, Inter Miami is at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference. Messi continues to stack records: with this double and this assist, he has now been decisive 16 times in the North American championship. This is the best total for a player in his first seven matches of an MLS season. La Pulga does better than… Thierry Henry (13 contributions in 2012), former record holder.
