14:48: Strategy – Pirelli expects one stop.

2:46 p.m.: There is a 20% chance of rain.

14:45: If you have a big performance advantage, you can overtake in Monaco too. But it’s hard. There is usually not much overtaking at the peak and changing positions is possible through the pits. Due to the lower degradation, in the past we have seen not only undercuts but also overcuts (when the rider stays on the track longer). And of course there is a high chance of a safety car.

14:38: Ayrton Senna won the most victories in Monaco, winning six times there. In second place with five wins is Graham Hill, who is also a triple crown holder – he also won the Indy 500 (which is being raced tonight) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. McLaren is commemorating its team triple crown today and in Spain with a special color scheme.

14:35: In Monaco we have a number of drivers who have won there. But there will only be four on the starting grid. Hamilton has won three times, Alonso twice and Red Bull drivers have won once. While Verstappen is more than close to another victory, for Pérez defending last year’s victory is only a theory. He will start the race from last place after yesterday’s accident in Q1.

14:34: Someone brought the damn tires to the grid…just in case. But so far it doesn’t look like rain despite the clouds.

14:30: Home star Charles Leclerc will only start from sixth place. Leclerc was penalized for blocking Norris in the tunnel. His bad luck on his home track continues. Last year, Leclerc reached the finish line for the first time in Monaco and was fourth, but after starting from pole position he certainly had bigger ambitions.

His brother Arthur doesn’t have much luck at home either. He crashed and had to retire in the race today.

14:26: We have already outlined this. Max Verstappen will start from pole position. He will have Fernando Alonso behind him. Both had a very close fight in qualifying. The third sector did not work out for Alonso.

14:22: If we look at the statistics, three drivers will have a chance to win today’s race: Verstappen, Alonso and Ocon. If we look at the hybrid era, three times the driver from first place won, three times from second and twice from third.

In total, the driver won from pole position 30 times, from second place only 16 times. The last driver to win after starting worse than third was Olivier Panis in 1996. Only 10% of races were won after starting outside the first two rows.

14:22: We are flying double yellows, but that will be more of a test…

14:20: The drivers are already on the starting grid, getting out of the cars…

14:14: The air is 26 °C, the track 47 °C. According to earlier forecasts, rain cannot be ruled out, although it is rather less likely and rain, if any, will be more likely in the mountains above Monte Carlo.

14:13: The riders are already heading to the starting grid.

14:12: Welcome to the online coverage of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix.
