The Cuban talent returned to the forefront of the MLB this Tuesday, May 9, when the Havanan Jorge Soler hit an impressive 468-foot home run for the Miami Marlinsthe first of two homers in the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in which his team won 6-2.

Down by just one run, Soler destroyed a fastball from the rookie pitcher Brandon Pfaadt with two teammates on board, sending the ball all the way down the left-center alley with a drive that traveled 468 feet, tying his farthest home run since at least 2015. The ball left the bat at a speed of 112.5 mph.

“I haven’t seen a ball hit that far in a long time,” manager Skip Schumaker said. “That first (home run) was pretty incredible. There aren’t many guys that have that kind of real raw power, and he’s a smart player. He’s not just ‘a huge guy who hits a home run.’

Soler’s drive is the seventh longest home run of the season in the Big leagues; the 485-footer that Giancarlo Stanton connected for the Yankees He remains the one who has covered the most distance so far this season. However, it is the one that has connected the furthest this year in the Chase Field of Arizonasurmounting a 459-foot board connected by Christian Walker.

Soler homered off Pfaadt again in the fifth inning, another 433-foot drive with a 110.7 mph exit velocity, driving in two more runs. This display of power marked the sixth time a Marlins player has hit multiple home runs over 110 mph in a game tracked by Statcast (since 2015). The other five were by Giancarlo Stanton.

After a bit of a slump from April 24 to May 3 (when he hit .061), Soler has multi-hit games in three of his last six. Through 35 games this season, Soler has nine home runs. Tuesday’s was his second multi-homer game of 2023 (April 5 vs. Twins).
