Luka Doncic to pay funeral costs after Belgrade shooting

Serbia was bereaved on Wednesday by a shooting at a school in Belgrade, killing nine (eight children and the school’s caretaker) and injuring seven (six children and a teacher). Thursday, Luka Doncic, the star of the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, of Slovenian nationality, announced that he will bear the funeral costs of the victims, via his foundation which helps children. This will also provide assistance to those who escaped the killing.

« I am heartbroken by the tragic school shooting in Serbia and the loss of life, including those of innocent schoolchildrensaid Doncic, who has Serbian roots in his family, in a statement transmitted by the Luka Doncic Foundation to ESPN. My thoughts are with the families and the entire community affected by this tragedy. He also welcomed the support of other NBA players with Balkan ties.
