Ja Morant was suspended by the NBA after behavior on social media crossed the line

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant made headlines again after an Instagram Live video in May 2023 CNNMorant reportedly displayed a gun to viewers during the broadcast (on someone else’s account) while in a vehicle with other passengers. The video quickly went viral online.

The Grizzlies released their statement on Twitter, shared: “We are aware of the social media video featuring Ja Morant. He is suspended from all team activities until the league is reviewed. We have no further comment at this time.” NBA spokesman Mike Bass also acknowledged that the NBA is also in the loop ESPN. He said: “We are aware of the social media post about Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information.” Morant’s officials have not yet commented on the suspension.

This latest incident happened just a few months later Morant was suspended for eight games without pay in March 2023, after an Instagram Live video showed the Grizzlies star holding a gun at a club. After meeting NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Morant shared a statement expressed his remorse at the time. “I take full responsibility for my actions…To my family, my teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire organization, I feel sorry for letting you down,” he said. Silver had also shared that Morant’s “conduct was irresponsible, inconsiderate and potentially very dangerous.” However, the commissioner added that Morant “made it clear to me that he learned from this incident”.
