Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier does not understand why there is so much speculation about his position. Almost all French media expect the Parisians to quickly dismiss the coach, despite winning the title in Ligue 1.
“Yes, I deserve to stay. I gave everything this season. We were always on course for the national title. We have now achieved a very clear goal,” Galtier reported on Saturday evening at the press conference after the 1-1 draw at RC Strasbourg.
With this result, PSG secured the eleventh championship in club history. French media are nevertheless convinced that the success cannot save Galtier’s job.
There is hardly any recognizable playing style and the 56-year-old coach would not be able to control the stars. In the Champions League, PSG already stranded in the eighth finals against Bayern Munich and in the French cup tournament, the formation of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Neymar was eliminated at the same stage by Olympique Marseille.
“Have we had such a catastrophic season?”
Still, Galtier doesn’t understand why he’s under so much fire. “Have we had such a catastrophic season? That will only be the case if we do not become champions. That happened to PSG twice recently (in 2017 and 2021, ed.).”
“Although we did not reach our goal in the Coupe de France and the Champions League, we went through a difficult phase at the time. We will analyze this season in peace.”
Galtier’s contract will run for more than a year. José Mourinho and Zinedine Zidane, among others, are associated with PSG. Zidane is without a club, while Mourinho is in his second season with Europa League finalist AS Roma.
