Eintracht President Fischer is looking for a larger public for the first time after the investigation. The 67-year-old is fighting back – and has one last big goal before leaving in 2024. He has words of praise for coach Oliver Glasner.
Er had avoided the public for a long time. But now Peter Fischer, the President of Eintracht Frankfurt, has commented on the investigations against him that have since been discontinued.
“That was the biggest mess that happened. Legally not at all tenable,” said Fischer late on Saturday evening in the ZDF “Sportstudio”. According to Fischer, the whole thing came “from a corner” from which they had been trying to push us for three months,” added the 67-year-old.
The public prosecutor’s office dropped the investigation in March. In November 2022, investigations were launched against the club boss and three other suspects. They had been accused of illegally acquiring and storing an unknown amount of cocaine at an unknown time.
Cup victory as the last title of his tenure
The public prosecutor later said it was not possible to assign the suspect to one of the four suspects without any doubt. A search of the home found traces of a suspicious substance.
Fischer wants to resign as President of Eintracht in early 2024. “It is my duty that I hand it over well,” said the official. He has already set the first course for an orderly transition. “The key players stayed: Chairman of the Supervisory Board (Philip Holzer) and (Axel) Hellmann, that was the first hurdle. Now it’s about finding young and active people who also represent my values.” Fischer is hoping for the last title of his term in the DFB Cup final against RB Leipzig on June 3rd.
“A Great, Great Coach”
Fischer also commented on Oliver Glasner, the coach who will leave the club at the end of the season. According to Fischer, he can understand the displeasure of the fans after the announced separation. “I have a lot of understanding for the fact that the fan says: are you crazy? I could also understand if we win the trophy and someone in Berlin says: Are you stupid?” Fischer said late on Saturday evening in ZDF’s “Aktuelle Sportstudio”. The club recently announced that they would part ways after the end of the season. Fischer called Glasner “a great, great, great coach. We won the big games under him.”
The 48-year-old Austrian led Eintracht to the Europa League title in 2022. This season, the club is in the cup final, which takes place on June 3 in Berlin against RB Leipzig. The separation was “difficult to communicate”, admitted Fischer with a view to the successes in the cup competitions. Glasner still had a contract with Eintracht until the summer of 2024. Recently, however, there have been disagreements.
“If I’m really honest: At that moment I would have vetoed it. But after we sat down for a long time and discussed for hours and talked about many details, I said: Yes, I understand that, ”said Fischer.
