DFB Cup: Strange superstition! That’s why Gulacsi swapped places | Sports

The euphoria is rising! On Monday, defending champions RB Leipzig brought the DFB Cup back to the capital. Max Eberl (Managing Director) and currently injured captain Peter Gulacsi (torn cruciate ligament) were present at the official “Cup Handover” in the Berlin City Hall. For cup opponents Frankfurt it was sports director Markus Krösche and captain Sebastian Rode. On June 3 (8 p.m., Olympic Stadium) both teams will meet.

And Gulacsi, who was able to lift the trophy last year as the first title in the club’s history, relies on superstition when it comes to defending the title! During the talk with Eintracht captain Rode, the Hungarian wanted to sit on the outer chair, to his left, on the podium and had to swap places with Rode. Gulacsi sat exactly on the chair last year – and then won the trophy with RB!

Gulacsi explains: “I’m very superstitious. It starts the day before the game, there is always the same music before the game. These are little things that help me get into the tunnel.”

And then he got emotional: “Winning the cup was the best moment of my football career. You will never forget that. The whole day, including afterwards in Leipzig – that was great. You play football for moments like this and I hope we can do it again. We have to stay with ourselves, we are super in the flow.

Gulacsi is currently working on his comeback after tearing his cruciate ligament and wants to be fit for team training in six to seven weeks. “It’s nice to be back on the pitch and working with the ball after so long in the gym.” How did he see the season? “It’s exceptionally tight up there. We had games where we could have scored more points. But we will attack again next season.”

But first, RB wants to defend the trophy. Manager Eberl: “It would be a great confirmation of last year’s success and an expression of quality.”

Perry Groom (60) is also looking forward to his fourth final as RB representative: “We are very proud to be in the cup final again. There’s something great about designing the final game of the season. We were able to get him last year. The nice thing is that I can bring the trophy here today and maybe put it back for the team in two weeks.”

By the way: referee Daniel Siebert (39 / Berlin) will whistle the final.
