Ouigo wants to operate between Valladolid and Madrid |

The ‘low cost’ company Oiugo, which offers low-cost train journeys, wants to add new destinations to its current offer, and Valladolid is one of its short-term objectives, which also means stopping in Segovia.

The operator has requested a capacity study from the railway infrastructure manager, Adif, with the aim of putting trains into service between Madrid, the Ciudad del Acueducto and the Ciudad del Pisuerga next year 2024. This is one of the two commitments that it is interested in launching from the Chamartín station, together with the one that reaches Elche and Murcia. Of course, it is the only route in Castilla y León that is planned for next year, so it follows that, at least for the moment, it refuses to establish itself in Palencia, León and Burgos.

According to its website, the Ouigo company, a subsidiary of the French SNCF, already offers communications between the country’s capital and the cities of Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Zaragoza, Albacete and Tarragona, with prices from nine euros per trip, and now it wants to expand to the aforementioned stations, for which it has requested that frequency report.

Ouigo entered Spain in May 2021 and in these two years it has transported six million passengers. They add, in fact, that they have attracted new users to the train, such as families, students and the self-employed, thanks to this low price policy, which includes reduced fares for children and even free fares for children under three years of age traveling in the arms of their parents. .

The establishment of new companies has been possible thanks to the liberalization of passenger traffic that occurred in 2019, although Renfe continues to monopolize the market and has hardly any competition. Now Ouigo proposes an expansion plan, as published by the aforementioned economic newspaper, and is committed to new services, including those of Segovia and Valladolid. His proposal focuses on adding two trains to his fleet, reaching 16 units, in addition to the foreseeable hiring of new personnel, publishes Cinco Días.

The Valladolid-Segovia-Madrid route complements one of Ouigo’s strategic lines, Madrid-Albacete-Alicante. By lengthening the route and adding destinations, the firm seeks a greater use of its rolling stock.
