Cayey, Cidra, Lajas and Fajardo score victories in Double A | Baseball

The Toritos de Cayey, the Bravos de Cidra, the Cardenales de Lajas and the Cariduros de Fajardo scored victories on the Saturday day of the 2023 postseason of Double A Superior Baseball.

The four teams dominate their respective section semifinal series 2-0, one win away from completing the sweep and advancing to the next stage.

Cayey crushed the Polluelos de Aibonito 15-3 with a result, backed by the barrage of 22 hits, four of them by Nelson Molina.

Pitcher Jesús Ortiz was masterful for the Toritos, striking out 10 in six innings with just two hits allowed and one run to win the challenge.

Also in the Central section, the Braves defeated the Pescadores del Plata de Comerío 5-2 with a four-round bouquet at the top of the seventh episode. A double from Pablo Sánchez gave the cidreños the definitive advantage.

In the Southwest, the Cardenales blanked the Petroleros de Peñuelas 3-0 with the impressive combination of pitchers Omar ‘El Seco’ Martínez, Ryan Hernández and Jeremie Infante, who limited the opposing offense with four hits.

In the East, Fajardo’s Cariduros overwhelmed the Río Grande Guerrilleros 12-5 with brilliant relief from Jahir Pérez, the game-winning pitcher. In addition, the Halcones de Gurabo beat the Mulos de Juncos 1-0 in 10 innings to tie the series, thanks to a sacrifice drum by Alexander Martínez. Lefty Juan Carlos Burgos took the victory in relief with three innings pitched.

In the Metro, the Cataño Lancheros leveled the series to a win by dominating the Guaynabo Mets 9-7 with three RBIs for Dan Pastrana.

In the South, both series were tied at one win. The runners-up Peces Voladores de Salinas reacted with a 3-2 win over the Santa Isabel Colts in 12 innings. The go-ahead run was scored by Héctor Mercado, taking advantage of a wild pitch from Jorge Sánchez.

Meanwhile, Juana Díaz’s Poets defeated the Coamo Marathoners 11-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored by Ángel Cruz. Pitcher Juan Marcano threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and won the game.

The games Hormigueros in San Sebastián, Aguada in Añasco, Cabo Rojo in Yauco, Humacao in Yabucoa, Patillas in Maunabo and the decisive Barceloneta in Utuado were postponed due to rain. The Carolina meeting in Dorado was postponed due to a failure in the electrical service. They were all reassigned for today, Sunday.
