According to a media report, Mönchengladbach has decided to separate from coach Daniel Farke. The rumors leave him cold. The sports director denied.
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s coach Daniel Farke says he doesn’t care about the reports about his decision to replace him at the end of the season. “It doesn’t affect my work in any way, it doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t take part in rumors and speculation,” said Farke on Sunday at DAZN shortly before the Bundesliga duel against Bayer Leverkusen kicked off. When asked if he would still be head coach in Gladbach in the new season, he said: “We signed a long-term contract, very, very consciously, and that’s a fact. Nothing else counts, we want to score here.”
The “Rheinische Post” had previously reported that the end of the collaboration was a done deal. According to the newspaper, Gladbach’s current U23 coach Eugen Polanski should be the favorite to succeed him. Gladbach’s sports director Roland Virkus vehemently contradicted the report again at DAZN, after he had previously done so with the “kicker”. “Clearly no. It’s not a done deal. I want to deny the rumors that are coming up,” Virkus said. “I can’t definitely confirm that.” The 56-year-old added: “It’s the second time that such rumors have come up shortly before a game and I’m standing before you today to deny exactly that.”
“It’s frustrating”
Farke rather saw his players influenced by it. “It’s a bit annoying, this is the second time in a row that it starts 90 minutes before kick-off. I feel a little sorry for the boys. The guys don’t live in space either, they’re already aware of things like that and then we expect them to perform in a highly concentrated manner. It’s not that easy for such young guys,” said the 46-year-old.
Virkus said they would sit down with Farke after the season. “That’s what I said, that’s what I said in the press conference, that’s what I said several times last week. Nothing has changed about that.” Farke has a contract until June 30, 2025.
