Badminton: a Ladies’Night to promote women’s doubles

And that call was quickly met. Thus, 15 fields saw 60 participants take turns over the evening and the six meetings. The participating clubs come from Namur, Gembloux, Floreffe, Ciney, but also Braine, Brussels or Ath. “Tonight was double and the pairs changed throughout the evening. We did 20-minute time slots and we change partners and opponents at each time slot. Also, all levels are mixed. The goal here was to play with girls we’ve never played with. Here, we have players from 12 (the lowest level) up to level 5, which is already a very good level. The goal is to have fun tonight”specifies Virginie Deckers.

Throughout the evening, from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., the matches followed one another, to the rhythm of a playlist specially concocted by the organizers for the occasion.

A sport in need of girls

Coming from Ath, Anne-Catherine and Aurore are really happy to have driven for 1h15 to come to this ladies’ Night: “It’s great to meet other players that you don’t know. It’s very homogeneous. Sometimes there are good games, sometimes bad ones. But the initiative is very interesting. We don’t have any in our region, and it’s well located here in Namur, it’s central. In addition, we wanted to support the initiative because badminton is in a bit of a crisis at the moment, there is a lack of women. And it’s super well organized, it’s great to change partners every 20 minutes.”

An opinion shared by the other badminton players present, like Mélina, Badad badminton player: “It was great. it’s cool to be able to meet and mix levels. You learn a lot from playing against stronger people. “

For its first edition, the BC Namur Ladies’Night was therefore a success. An initiative which, perhaps, will attract others, in other clubs.
