The Americans Corpuz and Yin co-leaders. Celine Boutier 17th…

Thanks to the same card of 67 (-5), the Americans Allisen Corpuz (photo) and Angel Yin take the lead of the Chevron Championship at -10 (206). After 54 holes, they are one length ahead of their compatriot Megan Khang, the South Korean Amy Yang and the Swiss Albane Valenzuela. Contenting herself with par (72) in the Moving Day, Céline Boutier fell alone to 17th place at -4 (212).

No game interruption this time for the Moving Day. The weather above Carlton Woods (Texas) remained much more lenient than the previous days. After the end of the 2nd round completed on Saturday morning at 8:35 a.m. local time (3:35 p.m. in France), the 3rd round was thus able to go smoothly to its end before nightfall.

Authors of two identical cards of 67 (-5), Alice’s Body et Angel Yinrespectively 25 and 24 years old, took the opportunity to take control of the Chevron Championship. Corpuz even took the luxury of making no mistakes on this par 72 drawn by Jack Nicklaus. The two young women, in search of a first success on the LPGA Tourahead of a trio of pursuers made up of the American Megan Kangfrom South Korea Amy Yang and the Swiss Albane Valencia.

Of this unique quintet, only Amy Yang, 33, does not have a virgin record on the US Circuit. The Asian player has indeed won four times, including three times on the Honda Thailand LPGA between 2015 and 2019. The fate of one of them could therefore clearly change at the end of the day on Sunday in the suburbs of Houston…

Unless the future winner of this first Major of the season now relocated to Texas comes from behind… Among the four players who occupy sixth place at -8 (208) are three former Grand Slam winners: the South Koreans Hyo Joo Kim et A Lim Kimleader after 36 holes, as well as the current world n°2, Nelly Korda. Their experience of winning in this kind of very tough tournament could be essential.

In fact, a good dozen players can still claim final victory, all standing just four points apart. We think for example of the Thai Atthaya Thitikultenth at -7 (209), twice victorious on the LPGA in 2022, or at the South African Ashley Buhaieleventh at -6 (210) and winner of the AIG Women’s Open last summer at Muirfield (Scotland).

By playing in par (72) with two birdies for two bogeys on this sunny Saturday, Celine Boutier may have missed the mark. At -4 (212), the Frenchwoman is indeed six strokes behind the leading duo. Fourth in 2022 for the last on the Dinah Shore at Rancho Mirage (California), the Ile-de-France resident in Dallas had however slammed a superb 67 (-5) final.

The 8th player in the world therefore knows how to play low when necessary (like during the 2nd round on Friday with her 67) but will that be enough? We want to believe it. Especially since twenty years ago, the Dijonnaise Patricia Meunier-Lebouc won in this Grand Slam tournament!
