SV Sandhausen wins in relegation battle at 1. FC Magdeburg

Dhe relegation battle in the second Bundesliga is getting tighter and tighter. There are only six points between SV Sandhausen in last place and 1. FC Nürnberg in 13th place. The Nuremberg lost 1: 2 (0: 2) at Holstein Kiel on Saturday and is also stuck in the relegation battle with Dieter Hecking as coach. The “club” has so far only won two out of seven second division games under its sports director and interim coach Hecking, the third coach this season.

The first goal they conceded was particularly bitter and strange: FCN goalkeeper Peter Vindahl shot Kiel’s Lewis Holtby in the 19th minute. From there the ball rebounded to Holstein striker Steven Skrzybski. Florian Flick then deflected his harmless shot over his own goal line. Fabian Reese scored the second goal in Kiel (39′). Felix Lohkemper’s goal (65′) was too little for FCN, who ended the game outnumbered after Jens Castrop received a red card.

Hansa Rostock suffered the next setback and also lost at SC Paderborn. Coach Alois Schwartz’s team lost 0:3 (0:0). Five days after the Rostock team parted ways with sports director Martin Pieckenhagen, they suffered their fourth defeat in a row. FC Hansa has not won since February 10th. Rostock are penultimate in the table, Paderborn is fifth.

Sandhausen WINS in Magdeburg

Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team is probably too big to get involved in the promotion race. Maximilian Rohr (48th minute), Florent Muslija (78th) and Felix Platte (87th) scored the goals for the hosts. Paderborn also benefited from the fact that Rostock’s Lukas Scherff saw the red card after an emergency brake in the first round (27th).

SV Sandhausen continues to hope. The bottom of the table surprisingly won 2-1 (1-0) at 1. FC Magdeburg and now has 24 points. The SVS had separated from coach Tomas Oral at the beginning of the week, but Gerhard Kleppinger looked after the sand houses on an interim basis. Dario Dumic (25th/66th minute) scored two goals for Sandhausen. Cristiano Piccini (89th) scored the connecting goal in front of 23,156 fans.

He and his team were able to avert the fourth defeat in a row. Overall, the SVS had remained nine games in a row without three. The FCM missed the chance to move up to eleventh place in the table with a win. With 32 points, the Sachsen-Anhaltiner, who had only lost once in the last five games, are far from saved. Dumic surprisingly gave the guests the lead. By then, the FCM had played out a number of chances.

In the tenth minute, SVS keeper Patrick Drewes parried a shot by Jason Ceka. Three minutes later, Baris Atik went just wide of the visitors’ goal from a tight angle. In the 22nd minute Magdeburg defender Piccini headed the ball against the post. The lead for Sandhausen was not indicated at all. In the second half, the central defender was there again to make it 2-0 and pushed the ball over the line from close range.
