Steyr succeeds in liberating Liefering

Forward Steyr gives up the Red Lantern!

At the end of the 25th round of the Admiral 2nd league, the Upper Austrians beat FC Liefering 2-0 and thus overtake the Young Violets, who are now in 16th place at the bottom of the table.

After three defeats en suite, Daniel Madlener’s team celebrates the long-awaited liberation. Liefering, in tenth place, confirms the downward trend and has not won in three league games.

Steyr fights in game

The initial phase will initially be determined by the guests from Salzburg. In minute three it is the first moment of shock for Steyr. Gerhard Dombaxi sharpens the ball with an unfortunate attempt to clear the box. Liefering, however, missed the opportunity.

The hosts are closing in at the back and trying to prick the ball after winning the ball. Initially, this did not result in any major goal opportunities. On the Liefering side, Oumar Diakite fired a shot just wide of the left post after an extended cross from Lukas Ibertsberger (23′).

After about half an hour, Steyr also seems to have arrived in the game. Again and again, flat crosses are hit into the guests’ penalty area. Keeper Jonas Krumrey can still hold on to a shot by Murat Satin (31st).

Two minutes later, the Liefering goalkeeper had to admit defeat: Dombaxi got a rebound in front of his feet and shot from outside the penalty area (33rd) – 1:0 for Steyr!

With the lead behind him, Steyr scored another goal shortly before the break: A corner kick sailed past friend and foe, but was ideal for Sven Sprangler, who was completely left on his own on the pitch – one shot, one goal – 2-0 for him Host!

Yellow-red KO for Liefering

Steyr remains the more present team in the second half as well. Liefering lacks structure, works hard, but repeatedly bounces off the attentive defense.

In the 67th minute, the guests weakened further: Moussa Kounfolo Yeo, who was already booked from the first half, was sent off after a foul.

Despite being outnumbered, Liefering developed a fighting spirit and didn’t give up. The luck in the last third is not denied to Salzburg. Steyr is tight at the back and won’t let the three hard-earned points go away.
