Slap Genk sees Union come next after a draw against Charleroi, which misses the play-offs | Jupiler Pro League 2022/2023

With a 5-2 demonstration against Anderlecht, Genk had shaken off the doubts last week. Against Charleroi, which was still fighting for the play-offs, the leader hoped to continue that line and also start the play-offs as number 1 with a new victory.

The start of the game was crazy, with two goals in just three minutes. McKenzie tapped in the early 0-1 on an assist from Trésor – his 21st of the season – and immediately afterwards Mbenza balanced the score again.

It inspired Charleroi to briefly push the leader away. On the half hour, Samatta’s 1-2 came quite out of the blue. That new lead was not liberating for Genk. At the ball there was too much waste in the Limburg game, pillars such as Heynen, Painstil and Trésor did not give home.

Even after the break, Genk continued to struggle with itself. Charleroi fired a volley at a strong goalkeeper Vandevoordt, but with the third big chance for the Carolos it was a hit via Nkuba. Charleroi remained eager even after that goal, but the audience at Mambourg would no longer see any clear-cut chances.

Final offensives failed to materialise, the 2-2 did not change anymore. It is a result that does not make either team happy, because Genk sees Union come next in the position and Charleroi still loses its play-off ticket to Cercle Brugge.
