FA Cup: Manchester United defeat Brighton on penalties and join Manchester City in the final

Manchester United won the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton on penalties at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday. After 120 minutes without a single goal (0-0), the Red Devils triumphed at the end of the suspense 7-6.

Erik Ten Hag and Roberto De Zerbi fought a tactical battle, and the two goalkeepers successfully defended their goals against a few attacks from either side. The game remained relatively closed for the first ninety minutes which ended in a goalless draw. In extra time, the weakened organizations allowed for more unbridled play, and Manchester United and Brighton could have been spared the pain of a penalty shootout, if David De Gea and Robert Sanchez had not continued their good performances.

On penalties, the first twelve shooters converted their tries, before March sent his outside the frame defended by De Gea. Lindelöf only had to convert his own to send Manchester United to the FA Cup final for the first time since 2018 and the defeat against Chelsea (1-0). United therefore joins its neighbor and rival City in the final. The Skyblues won their own semi-final on Saturday at the expense of Sheffield United (3-0). Riyad Mahrez scored a hat-trick to dispose of the Blades, the last Championship resident still in contention in the FA Cup. Kevin De Bruyne remained on the bench throughout the game. The poster, unprecedented in the FA Cup final, will take place on June 3 at 4:00 p.m. (Belgians), still in the legendary lair of Wembley. Last season, Liverpool won the Cup on penalties against Chelsea (0-0, 6-5 on pens).
