Olympic sports in the spotlight – European Community of Alsace

Following the designation of Paris as host city of the Games in 2024, Olympic and Paralympic Week is organized each year by the Ministry of National Education in partnership with the French sports movement. Alsace, labeled Land of Games 2024puts Olympic sports in the spotlight.

College students mobilize for inclusion

The Victor Hugo College in Colmar is mobilizing to offer its students a week rich in discoveries and lessonswhere sport is used as educational tool in lessons, allowing students to discover Olympic and Paralympic disciplines in collaboration with the sports movement.

During the week, several met (with Roxana Maracineanu, Jérémy Grimm, Dimitri Bascou, Anaïs Mouhoux,…) and workshops (blind football, introduction to taekwondo, judo, wheelchair handball, fencing, etc.) were organized for College students.

This Olympic and Paralympic week aims to:

  • make students aware of olympic and paralympic valuess using educational and fun tools
  • change the way people look at disability based on the discovery of para sports and integrating adapted sport meetings

This is an opportunity for young people to discover sports valuesof the encourage voluntary and civic engagement and for them to better understand the challenges of inclusion by learning to overcome prejudices.

Sports workshops for ASE youth

Wednesday, April 5, 180 children aged 8 to 15in boarding schools and day centres, took part in sports workshops and a quiz on the values ​​of Olympism and Paralympism organized as part of Olympic and Paralympic week.

  • 60 children social children’s homes (MECS) le Bercail, le Rayon de soleil and le Chalet were in Guebwiller for workshops on inclusive athletics, badminton, table tennis and handball
  • 60 children MECS Gustave Stricker and Saint Joseph were in Mulhouse to practice blind football, inclusive athletics, racket sports and basketball
  • 60 children MECS Neuhof and Freihof were in Strasbourg for wheelchair basketball, climbing, badminton and break workshops

These workshops took place in free gymnasiums by the owners (the Hugstein gymnasium in Buhl – Commune community of the Guebwiller region, the Doller gymnasium – City of Illzach, Basket Center – Basket Center).

Label “Terre de Jeux 2024”

In 2024, France will host the Olympics and Paralympics. As part of this event, the European Community of Alsace has been labeled “Land of Games 2024”. Becoming “Terre de Jeux 2024” means committing to helping everyone experience the emotions of the Games, changing people’s daily lives through sport and allowing as many people as possible to experience the Olympic and Paralympic adventure.
