Marcenaro gives a corner kick. And the Var remains silent

by Francesco Finulli

Little has been said about a very dubious episode which took place yesterday on the short side line of the Empoli penalty area between Fazzini and Theo Hernandez in the 54th minute. The Rossoneri fullback timed his opponent with whom he crossed the trajectory, falling as the ball went over goal. Mr carpenter he awards a corner without hesitation amid protests from Theo and the Rossoneri players. The referee makes a very brief check to the Var and then confirms his decision on the pitch, telling the Frenchman, as reported by the Gazzetta, that Fazzini “touched the ball”. Reviewing the replay it is clear and obvious like the Empoli player, he doesn’t really see the ball and everything could be conceded on that occasion except a corner kick, since the ball is only touched by falling Theo Hernandez. In fact, Fazzini arrives late with his toe and instead of finding the ball, he finds the Milan full-back that had burned him in time. An oversight not deemed worthy of an on-field review by Var Valeri who settled the case in seconds. The pictures seem to say otherwise…
