Shohei Ohtani pitched just two innings before an 85-minute rain delay ended his day on the mound in the Los Angeles Angels’ 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

At the plate, the versatile player had two singles on five strikes with a run scored during a rainy Patriots’ Day at Fenway Park in Boston.

The long rain delay forced the Angels to the bullpen with a 5-1 lead after Ohtani allowed a run in two no-hitter innings.

“There’s nothing I can do,” Ohtani said through his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. “I felt like I could get back on the pitch, but we didn’t know how long the delay would last.

Ohtani walked once and hit three times, including fellow Japanese and World Baseball Classic teammate Masataka Yoshida, who went zero in four strikes for the day.

“I failed to hit his fastball in the end,” Yoshida said of his faceoff against Ohtani. “I will try to find something when I face him again.

Ohtani opened the ball rolling for his fourth consecutive start and threw two wild balls before giving up a ground ball to Rob Refsnyder.

The Angels snapped a three-game losing streak thanks to Hunter Renfroe, who hit a home run and scored four runs.

Tucker Davidson (1-1), who replaced Ohtani, allowed a run in 3-1/3 innings for the victory. Brayan Bello (0-1) suffered the loss.
