Alcaraz gets into the round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open and meets with Zverev

Murcian victory 6-2 and 7-5 against Dimitrov

MADRID, 30 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has beaten the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 7-5 this Sunday and has qualified for the round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open, fourth Masters 1000 of the ATP season, where he will face the German Alexander Zverev.

At the Manolo Santana Stadium, Alcaraz exhibited a better version against Dimitrov than last Friday during his debut against the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori. This time, in an hour and a half, the Murcian beat a rival who faltered at the start of the match, but did put up a battle in the second set.

However, that towing situation eventually took its toll on the Bulgarian. Having lost his serve right into the opening set, Dimitrov barely troubled Alcaraz and focused his main efforts on the next set.

In fact, the man from Haskovo kept his serve firm in the early stages and even broke his opponent in the sixth game (2-4). Despite this, Alcaraz immediately replied, returning that break and consolidating it with aplomb (4-4). It was then that the Murcian accelerated to break again (6-5) and seal the victory.

For his third meeting in the Caja Mágica, the player from El Palmar will face off against ‘Sascha’ Zverev. Therefore, the match that settled the title last year in this same tournament will be reissued. On that occasion, Alcaraz scored the victory in said final by a resounding 6-3 and 6-1 in just over an hour.
