Victor Perez will not make it out of the group stage of the WGC Match-Play in Austin

No Masters for the Habs. After his defeat on Wednesday against American Collin Morikawa, Victor Perez had to avoid a second defeat at all costs this Thursday against Australian Jason Day. Despite a lead from the Australian at the start of the game, the two opponents were again tied at hole number 8. Perez had subsequently managed to take control at hole 12 thanks to an eagle from him. But with two birdies from the Australian on hole 13 and 14, Jason Day regained the advantage by finishing with a birdie on hole 16 and thus eliminating his opponent.

“Today was a bit stormy, but after yesterday’s round I felt pretty good about my game, said the Australian. I feel like I play on Sundays, pretty much every round here, so I got a little lucky. I have to put my shots in order for tomorrow (Saturday). I know I have a very difficult round with Collin. Overall, I’m very happy to have had two wins. »

As for the duel between Collin Morikawa and Adam Svensson, the match ended in a tie between the two players, leaving Jason Day to take first place in the group.

The French will face the Canadian this Friday, for a final match of this WGC Match-Play.

Rahm, Scheffler and McIlroy victorious

After a first defeat on the first day of the group stages, Jon Rahm emerged victorious from his duel this Thursday against Keith Mitchell (4/3): “Yesterday I started pretty solid on the first five or six holes, maybe the first nine. But after that I didn’t have my best game, even starting with the 4, 11, 12 and 14, which are holes I usually hit within a yard. I passed one, I failed three. That’s what cost me the match, quite simply. Other than that, I made some really good putts that didn’t get in. Today was a bit of the opposite, we were tied until 8, then on 9, 11, 12, I made those putts and took a five shot lead. So that was the main difference.” said the world No. 2.

On the other hand Rickie Fowler, winner against Jon Rahm on Wednesday, lost (3/2) in his second match against the winner of the WGC Match-Play 2021, Billy Horschel.

Scottie Scheffler – (5/4) against Alex Noren – and Rory McIlroy – 1up against Denny McCarthy – continued their momentum with a second victory.
