Iga Świątek also turned his attention towards the title in Rome

The Madrid-Rome double is just one match win away for Iga Swiatek. After the 6:4 and 6:3 against Coco Gauff, the Pole is the first player in the final of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Rome. There she will not meet either Aryna Sabalenka or Danielle Collins. A few days ago in Madrid, Swiatek won the title against Sabalenka in a dramatic final.

The matter against Gauff was also initially a close one. It went back and forth until 4:4 in the first set, then Gauff gave her opponent the decisive break with two double faults. In the second act, Swiatek Gauff took their serve to make it 3-2, but the industry leader missed further chances in the seventh game. When the score was 3:4 there was an opportunity for Coco Gauff to make a comeback, but Swiatek remained stable.

Ultimately, it was Iga Swiatek’s better forehand and her outstanding returns that made the small difference. After 1:47 hours of play, Swiatek had her first match point – and Gauff pushed a backhand out of bounds.
