There could be a surprising turnaround in the coaching question at FC Bayern. Will Thomas Tuchel stay after all? Lothar Matthäus advises the coach against staying.

For Lothar Matthäus, the possible continued employment of coach Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern is a worrying signal.

“Now thinking about keeping him shows what discrepancies there are in the club and what chaos reigns there. FC Bayern presents a very questionable image to the outside world,” said the record football national player to “Bild”. Several media outlets had previously reported that the Bayern bosses wanted to surprisingly persuade Tuchel to stay in Munich.

The record champions actually decided and announced their early separation from the 50-year-old at the end of this season in February. “He was trampled on, especially by Uli Hoeneß recently,” said Matthäus. The Bayern patron recently accused Tuchel of wanting to sign new players for a lot of money rather than developing young professionals.

However, when looking for a successor, the Munich team received rejections from Leverkusen’s master maker Xabi Alonso, national coach Julian Nagelsmann and Austria’s team boss Ralf Rangnick. Oliver Glasner’s current club, Crystal Palace, was reportedly against signing Oliver Glasner.

Matthäus: Tuchel doesn’t need to stay at Bayern

“From Thomas Tuchel’s point of view, I say: He doesn’t need to stay at Bayern. Especially since I think that the sting for him is still deep,” said Matthäus. The 63-year-old added that Tuchel has options to work at other top European clubs.

But the coach should be ready to continue. It is said that a number of leading players have also spoken out in favor of Tuchel. The coach recently led the Bundesliga club to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

According to the media, the possible sticking point in the talks is Tuchel’s contract term. His current contract expires in mid-2025. According to Sky, Tuchel’s management is demanding an extension of the working paper until at least 2026.
