Michael van Gerwen once again secured the victory in the Premier League on Thursday evening. De Brabander settled in the final battle in Liverpool with Michael Smith: 6-4.
Smith was the only opponent who could shake Van Gerwen somewhat during the Premier League round in Liverpool. The number one in the world stayed in the footsteps of the Dutchman for a long time, but was broken at 4-4.
Van Gerwen failed to get the job done with his first match dart on tops, but in the second instance it was still a hit on double-10. It was his third consecutive Premier League win.
Last week Van Gerwen was the best in Exeter in England and the week before in Dublin. As a result, the three-time world champion is in the lead in the Premier League. His lead over number two Michael Smith is eight points.
Van Gerwen showed top form all evening
Earlier in the evening, Van Gerwen was already on a roll in the M&S Bank Arena. In the first round, ‘Mighty Mike’ defeated Jonny Clayton (6-2). In the second round he wiped the floor with Peter Wright: 6-1.
The Premier League has been played since last year with a format with quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final battle every Thursday evening. The further you get, the more points you get for the leaderboard.
The darts players will meet in Nottingham next week. On April 20, the circus will visit Ahoy in Rotterdam.
