Malagasy Judokas Struggle in Early Rounds at African Championship in Cairo

Antananarivo, April 25, 7:10 p.m. – Angelo Rakotonandrasana (-60 kg) and Natacha Razafindrakalo (-48 kg), the two Malagasy judokas competing on the opening day of this African Championship, were eliminated early in the competition continental conference currently underway in Cairo, Egypt.

Natacha Razafindrakalo, bronze medalist at the African Games, was eliminated in the round of 16 after a defeat against Algerian Houaria Kaddour, while Angelo Rakotonandrasana was beaten in the quarter-finals.

In the under 60 kg category, the Malagasy had previously eliminated Burundian Raoul Brillant Nganji in the round of 16 before losing to Egyptian Youssry Samy. He then competed in the repechage events, but without success, losing his match against the Tunisian Fraj Dhouibi.

Angelo Rakotonandrasana is the only Malagasy male representative in Egypt. Accompanied by judokates Natacha Razafindrakoto, Christiane Vitale and Laura Rasoanaivo, he is one of the four athletes who represent Madagascar during this African Championship, from April 25 to 28.
