Conti/Macchi are aiming to become the first Italians to reach the podium in the world championship in pairs.

In the previous world championship, Knirima/Fraser won, leaving Miura/Kihara in the silver role.

23 pairs competed in the short program, but the 20 best duos continue the competition in optional skating.

Later on Wednesday at Skating in the short program for women will begin at 8:50 a.m., where Latvia will be represented by Sofja Stepchenko. She will start in the fourth competition of 35 participants, going on the ice at 9.16.

The World Championship will end on Sunday, March 26, with demonstrations.
