Ben Roethlisberger was allowed to return to the NFL in 2022, but not with the Steelers

During the past season, there were multiple reports about the possible return of Ben Roethlisberger to the NFL months after retiring to play for the San Francisco 49ers due to multiple injuries to their quarterbacks.

In an interview with Mark Madden, Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback confirmed interest from San Francisco franchise following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

“I was quite comfortable with my decision. Last year there was some truth to the Niners report that they approached me to gauge interest.Roethlisberger said.

Despite the interest of the gambusinos, the first selection of the Steelers in the Draft of 2004 declared that he did not see himself as a player for any team other than the one that recruited him after graduating from Miami University in Ohio.

“I talked to my agent, my wife, my family, I would be lying if I didn’t say that a small part of me was intrigued,” Big Ben said. “He could still do it and he would have wanted to show it. At the end of the day, Couldn’t see me in colors other than black and gold”.

While in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger played in 249 regular season games and had 64,088 yards with 418 touchdown passes. Additionally, he was part of the teams that won Super Bowls XL and XLIII.

Roethlisberger misses playing

Despite saying goodbye to football with a performance in the postseason against the Kansas City Chiefs, Roethlisberger said he still misses playing on Sundays because of the camaraderie of his peers.

“What I miss the most is the competitiveness. Being out there, having the ball in the fourth quarter and being with my teammates,” Roethlisberger said. “Savoring that last minute victory or being in the dress after a triumph are things you can never replicate.”.
