Thanks to Ratiopharm Ulm they can finally celebrate again

Despite many weaknesses, Ulm seemed to be able to achieve a lackluster victory in Crailsheim for a long time – but then this fourth quarter of horrors followed.

If Ratiopharm Ulm hits his many threes well, then that’s usually enough against basically beatable opponents. Otherwise Bruno Caboclo can still fix it. But if the tall Brazilian also has a day that is not necessarily bad, but also not outstanding, then there is also a 68:76 defeat in the basketball Bundesliga against a Crailsheim team, which in turn had previously lost seven games in a row.

With the mediocre Ulm three-pointer rate of 35 percent and Caboclo’s only twelve points and five rebounds, which are solid by his standards, the unexpected defeat only partially explains. It could and should have been enough, although Ulm also lost 26 turnovers – eight of which were attributed to Brandon Paul. Nevertheless, before the last quarter, a 59:47 lead for the guests, who again played without the injured Robin Christen, shone from the scoreboard in Ilshofen. Which was essentially thanks to Thomas Klepeisz. The captain almost always hits his threesomes. Against Crailsheim, for example, one at the end of the clock for a 37:32 half-time lead and two less wild ones towards the end of the third quarter. Because Brandon Paul and Yago dos Santos also sunk the ball from outside during this phase, it turned into a 12:0 run and a seemingly decisive 57:45 lead in Ulm. What happened after that caused puzzled faces on the Ulm side. Klepeisz said simply: “We stopped playing and fighting too early.” His coach Anton Gavel stated: “In the last quarter we didn’t do anything on the offensive side.”

At least not after three and a half minutes of this final part of the game. With a 62:53 guest lead, nothing had happened, then suddenly only Crailsheim was playing and Gavel’s protégés had no more answers. It was Bogdan Radosavljevic, a former player from Ulm, who threw his team back into the lead after a long time with a three-pointer to 65:63 and immediately added another goal from the two-man section. Overall, Crailsheim won this horror district almost unbelievably high with 29:9.
