Acapulco (Mexico) – It was a record semi-final at the Mexican Open – and there was a nasty incident: That Tennis-Match between the two Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul (both 25) made for spectacular moments!

Yesterday, Saturday, the two played in Acapulco for a place in the final of the Mexican Open and it should be a memorable game – after all, the two opponents are fifth (Fritz) and 23rd (Paul) in the world tennis rankings.
However, the sporting event was overshadowed by a somewhat unsavory moment in which Taylor Fritz had to briefly interrupt the game. As the news site news.com.au reports, the 25-year-old suddenly suffered stomach problems during the third and final set.
Just as he was about to serve, the American broke off and went to his bench with one hand over his mouth because he threw up mid-match!
The referee quickly got him a bucket and after he had emptied his stomach it took him a moment to wipe his face with a towel and probably to regain his concentration.
The problem with this: the referee had to abide by the rules of the game and summarily gave the tennis star a time penalty because he had not served on time!

The tennis match itself developed into the longest game in the 30-year history of the Mexican Open. In an exciting exchange of blows, the two Americans gave nothing and in the end Tommy Paul won 6:3, 6:7 and 7:6 – and that after a whopping 3 hours and 25 minutes.
The lucky semi-final winner went straight into the final this Sunday morning against Australian Alex de Minaur (24). He is 22nd in the world tennis rankings, just one rank above Paul.
After all, the final of the Acapulco ATP 500 event took place without any stomach problems for the two players.
Ultimately, the Australians prevailed in the final against the Americans 3:6, 6:4 and 6:1 and that is the name of the winner of the Mexican Open: Alex de Minaur!
