Novak Djokovic (35) has been defending his lead in the world rankings for weeks. Now he is also fighting for entry into the USA.
The two tennis tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami are scheduled for March and April in the USA. The big problem: Djokovic is not vaccinated against the corona virus. The USA refuses him entry because he is unvaccinated. Because the entry restrictions there are still valid until at least mid-April.
“I really want to be there,” explains Djokovic at his training ground in Belgrade. He and his team are currently still working on a special permit.
Djokovic is already getting a lot of support from the tennis world. “I’m really grateful to the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami and the community for their public support,” says the Serb. Then he clarifies: “They want me to be able to participate in their tournaments.”
Djokovic had to sit out the Australian Open 2022. Despite his star status, he did not manage to get an exemption there. Are the American authorities more merciful now?
