Simon Billy signs a world record with a top speed of 255.50 km/h

The Frenchman retained his planetary title by passing the 255 km/h mark that no one had reached for seven years.

A rocket on the slopes of the Chabrières runway in Vars. Simon Billy became world champion in speed skiing this Wednesday by clocking a top speed of 255.5 km/h. A speed never reached, the previous record was in the hands of the Italian Ivan Origone with 254.958 km/h recorded. The Haut-Alpin was able to benefit from optimal sliding conditions to wipe out the previous record. Among the ladies, Sweden’s Britta Backlund won world gold but without a world record at the end of her attempt.
