Rico Carty will be elevated to the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS.- The former star of the Stars Ricardo Carty (Rico) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Atlanta Braves, the legendary National League team, who announced it this Thursday through his Twitter account. Twitter.

Carty will receive the distinction on August 19 (Saturday), in a ceremony that will take place before the game against the San Francisco Giants, which is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.

The San Pedro de Macorís native will be inducted alongside Fred Tenney, a former outfielder, first baseman and catcher who played for the Boston Braves from 1894 to 1911. He was also the club’s manager.

Carty played for the Braves, at their sites in Milwaukee (1963-1965) and Atlanta (1966-1972). He and Tenney will join 38 others who have received the distinction for “his exceptional contribution to the Braves organization,” according to a press release from that team.

Carty’s career .317 batting average in a Braves uniform is tied for sixth in franchise history and tied for first at his current home, Atlanta.

Carty also has the highest WAR by a left fielder in franchise history, serving for which he was selected to the 1970 All-Star Game, the year in which he led National League hitters with a .366 average. , the highest for the club in Atlanta, sixth in franchise history, and the first for a Dominican hitter in the Major Leagues.

“We feel very happy, with this well-deserved recognition for Carty,” engineer Miguel Feris, president of the Stars, told a press release, the team with which the strong right-handed hitter debuted in the Dominican League and for which he played his first seven seasons (1959-1969) in local baseball.

“Carty is a symbol of the Stars and of San Pedro de Macorís, whom we star fans love with devotion,” said Feris.

El Rico, as he is nicknamed, was the main contributor for the Stars to win the national championship, in the 1967-1968 season, in which he was the batting leader, with a .350 average. He hit 5 home runs and drove in 26 runs in that contest.

He was the winner of the Dominican League Most Valuable Player award in the 1966-67 tournament, in which he hit .311 with 9 home runs and 34 RBIs for the Stars.

Carty is a member of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame since 1989.

He is frequently seen at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macorís, in the stands, supporting the Stars, accompanied by family and friends.
