professional football player drives into sports hall at high speed

Belgian professional football player Sofian Kiyine (25) drove his car at full speed through the facade of a sports hall last night. He came to a halt in the middle of the room. Kiyine miraculously survived the sensational accident in Flémalle (in the province of Liège), but was injured.

Kiyine exchanged Lazio Roma for OH Leuven in September 2022, where he usually plays as a midfielder.

His club, which plays in the top Belgian division, reports the accident on its website. “Sofian Kiyine was taken to the emergency department of the nearest hospital where further examinations are taking place. He is not in danger. Fortunately, no other vehicles or persons were involved in the accident.”

Furthermore, the club does not release much. “The club is waiting for more clarity about the exact circumstances of how the accident came about before responding further.” OH Leuven concludes the announcement on the website with a get well soon wish for the football player.

‘Children had just gone to the changing rooms’

The Belgian newspaper The last hour writes that the car may have been traveling at 200 kilometers per hour. The maximum speed allowed in that place is 90 kilometers per hour. Kiyine lost control of the wheel and flew into the sports hall via a roundabout. There was a huge devastation, so miraculously no other people were injured.

That didn’t matter much though. According to Belgian media, children were in the room at the time of the accident, but they had just gone to the changing rooms. The sports hall is home to mini football, basketball and gymnastics clubs, but will not be able to be used for a while due to the destruction.

Images have now surfaced of the bizarre accident. It shows how Kiyine’s car flies through the air, pierces the wall of the sports hall and leaves a gigantic hole.
