Billy Donovan, as criticized outside as supported inside

The Bulls are not living a campaign, much less easy. Being one of the teams with the most following in the NBA, the season has gone by without ever being able to remove the label of disappointing; and it is that at this point they occupy the 10th place in the Eastern Conference (the last one that gives the pass to play-in) with a balance of 36-40.

With this scenario, criticism has intensified. There has been talk of the performance of players, the success or error in the enormous extension of Zach LaVine and, of course, the work that Billy Donovan is doing on the bench.

Finding himself in his third season at the helm of the Illinois organization, this was expected to be the year in which he consecrated the Bulls to the top spot in the East. We are not talking about rubbing shoulders with the Bucks or Celtics, but we are talking about being close to being a playoff team directly, something that has not been achieved either. This circumstance has caused him to be widely criticized from various fronts, but never for his wardrobe; so much so that DeMar DeRozan has nothing but praise for his coach.

“He is definitely very underrated from the outside. It’s quiet. He is always focused on the game and paying attention to the little things. Is incredible. His game, his schemes … he brings much more to the game than what people see, “says the All-Star guard in statements collected by Joe Cowley from The Chicago Sun-Times.

Although the players are with Billy Donovan, the truth is that as in any competition here the results rule. No one doubts that Lonzo Ball’s prolonged absence has affected them greatly and that with him they would be a better team, but finding solutions and getting ahead is also the coach’s job. We’ll see how the campaign ends and if the management continues to trust his leadership from the band.
