Orthopedic insoles: “Certainly some insole prescriptions are unnecessary”

SNonsense and nonsense, the benefits and effectiveness of orthopedic insoles are a much-discussed topic. One thing is certain: you can provide more mobility and less pain. However, they can also be used incorrectly or be superfluous.

One who is very familiar with the subject is Professor Dr. Stefan Stuhlmann. The specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery, himself a runner and fitness trainer, holds the professorship for “Interprofessional Health Care” at the East Bavarian Technical University. And there he researches, among other things, insoles and the subject of sensorimotor functions.

WELT: Mr. Stuhlmann, around four and a half million patients were prescribed insoles in 2020. What do you think: how often was it really necessary?
