FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure Gus Umar alias Muhammad Umar Syadat Hasibuan spoke out regarding FIFA officially canceling Indonesia as host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
Gus Umar also congratulated the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, and the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster.
He congratulated the two regional heads with backgrounds from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) because Indonesia was canceled from hosting the U-20 World Cup.
“Congratulations to Ganjar, Iwan Koster and Hasto because Indonesia won’t host the U20 pildun,” Gus Umar tweeted on his Twitter timeline while uploading a link to the official FIFA website. FAJAR.CO.IDWednesday (29/3/2023).
Previously, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo and the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, agreed to reject the arrival of the Israeli national team in Indonesia. This is despite the fact that the Israeli team has already qualified for the Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
The tournament will be held in six provinces in Indonesia. The six provinces are Central Java, East Java, West Java, South Sumatra, Jakarta and Bali.
Ganjar Pranowo emphasized that the refusal was a commitment to support Palestinian independence, as stated in the constitution and Sukarno’s previous stance. Meanwhile, I Wayan Koster wrote to the Minister of Youth and Sports on March 14 2023, even though he previously supported the event.
Meanwhile, The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) officially canceled Indonesia as the host for the 2023 U-20 World Cup. This was announced by FIFA in a statement on its official website, FIFA.com.
